Alice Brown

AliceAlice Brown began her teaching career in 1985.  Prior to retirement in 2018, she was Headteacher at Tollcross Primary School in Edinburgh.  She was previously Depute Headteacher at Bonaly and Sciennes Primary School.  Alice is an SQH graduate and Field Assessor. She has coached and mentored many Headteachers and aspiring Headteachers throughout her career. When Alice was appointed to Tollcross it was a combined English and Gaelic Medium school, her leadership supported the opening of the standalone Gaelic School in Edinburgh, Taobh na Pairce and the subsequent growth of Tollcross.Alice has a strong interest in leading Curriculum change and supported the development of Creativity in Science for Education Scotland.  Alice also worked on Science development for the City of Edinburgh Council, setting up a Science Laboratory in Sciennes. She recently led a SSERC programme across her Cluster Schools, building a team of Science Mentors. Alice has also developed Cultural and Educational links across many countries, through the British Council and Comenius. She also created and developed the Junior Award Scheme Scotland with the D of E.  Alice continues to volunteer to support sport development and was a committee member of 25 years standing with the Edinburgh Primary School Sports Association, which annually provides sporting and competitive activities to hundreds of Edinburgh's children.
