Whitewave
John White has lived on Skye for 15 years, with his wife Anne Martin, a well known Gaelic singer and their two children, daughter Talitha, and son Ronan.
John and Anne have owned and operated Whitewave, Skye’s Outdoor Centre for the last 14 years and Whitewave Music for 5 years. Whitewave offers outdoor activities, education, and accommodation, café etc. Whitewave Music is a small independent recording label & management for Anne’s music.
John’s previous employment ranges from being a freelance outdoor instructor, working at Raasay Outdoor Centre, Celmi (Management Training Centre N.Wales) to jobs as Library Assistant and Schools Environmental Education Project Worker.
He is a qualified Summer Mountain Leader (MLTB), Sea Kayak Level 3 Coach (Old Senior Instructor), RYA Windsurfing Level 1 Instructor and holds a Current Mountain First Aid Certificate.
He received a Degree (BA) in English Literature (major) & Community & Youth Studies (minor) and currently studies part-time for MSc in Outdoor Education at Edinburgh University. (Special area of interest, connection of culture & language to outdoor learning).
John enjoys music, (having learnt to play the fiddle in the last 2 years), even more things outdoors (caving & potholing, sailing, skiing, diving) and calls himself a book addict..!
Just recently completed a MSc in Outdoor Educaction at Edinburgh University, and has a particular reserch interest in "sense of place".
He is an environmentalist, and last year installed a 6Kw wind turbine to help power the centre, one of the first outdoor centres to do so.

Rod Liddon
1940 - 2005
On April 15th 2005 our long time supporter, instructor and dear, dear friend, Rod Liddon, passed away at home with his family after some months of suffering. Rod has been a powerful part of Columba 1400 for many years. We have had the privilege of working closely with him and we feel the loss keenly. Rod’s integrity, clarity of thought and incredible and enduring sense of purpose had a profound impact. He touched the lives of so many people both through his work with Columba 1400 and through his wider role within the community. Rod has contributed more than most are able to in a lifetime, as a distinguished soldier in his earlier life and as a crofter, activist and instructor. He will be sorely missed.
The thoughts and prayers of the Columban team and Board are with Rod’s family.
The many kind emails and letters which poured in from those whose lives Rod had touched are a testament to the effect he had on so many people.
