Born and brought up in Greenock, Laura’s first experience with Columba 1400 occurred in March 2006 when she graduated from a Leadership programme through a local Greenock community project. She gained many new skills during this time and got a real understanding of where she wanted her life to go.
Laura was invited back to take part in Columba’s Coracle Leadership Programme which saw her working alongside other Columban graduates as well as employees from the Royal Bank of Scotland. This again helped Laura see future possibilities and inspired her to apply through ProjectScotland to become a volunteer with Columba 1400 for three months at the end of 2006 so as to gain a better knowledge of working with other people and to help Columba as they had helped her to turn her life around.
By the end of her three months volunteering with Columba, it was clear that Laura had become a valued member of the programme team, and she was invited back to join the Skye team on a full time permanent basis.

Hope some of you remember me! Anyway, just posting to say thank you for the amazing experience. I learned so much and have been putting what I worked on at Columba into practice at home. We have been planning how we can use what we learned at school too. We are going to do seminars with each year to share with them what we done. After that, we will see how things go. No-one can tell what will happen in the future (okay, I may as well steal Megan's quote from her presentation and say "life is like a sky-dive!") but I know that after the Columba experience it is definitely going to be great! So thank you, for everything, and I hope everyone at Columba is well!

It's me dean and I'm writting to let you know I'm missing u all milllions and wish I could go again up to skye! I want to let you know that me and the rest of us are having meeting every monday in school and we will be giving a talk at the 3rd and 2nd year assemblies about our experience. So9 hope u get back to me but for now thanxs so much and missing everyone lots.

I went up to skye with the community drugs team on march the 11 2006 just to let u know i have never felt the peace in my heart and mind it was such an amazing feeling to feel human again,i have just got maself a computer,it was so nice to see you all at th gathering,hope to see u all again, take care miss u all,
