What we do

Our work is dedicated to enabling young people from tough realities to discover their true potential. We say tough realities as we all face tough realities at some point in our lives, regardless of age, stage or background. Our young people are often young carers, young people who live or have lived in local authority care, those struggling to engage with school and at risk of not reaching a positive destination.

In order to have a significant impact on the life of a young person we also work with the key adults in their lives such as Teachers, Head Teachers, Social Workers, Parents and Carers.

In all of our Leadership Academies we work alongside partner organisations who identify those who they support in their local community and who would benefit from a Columba 1400 Leadership Academy. Our partners are schools in areas of high deprivation, young people living in local authority care, social work departments, community learning and development teams, third sector partners such as young carer groups and charities working with young homeless people, and other community groups.

We have been delivering high quality Leadership Academies since 2000 and as a result, we are in high demand from partner organisations. We continually strive to reach those young people who need our help the most.

As with all of our work, our work with Head Teachers is a personal values based experience which also provides Head Teacher participants the opportunity to focus on the cultures that they create which will ultimately lead to improvement in the lives of young people, their staff, their families, their learning networks and the whole community.

Our work is based on the quote by John Buchan that ‘Our task is not to put the greatness back into humanity, but to elicit it, for the greatness is there already’.
